This was a nickname while growing up that has stayed with me throughout my life. I was named after my mom Maria Luisa (Licha) and the younger version of my mom, myself a Maria Luisa was (Lichita)…. thus shortened by many family members. I soon answered to Chita, the shortcut to Lichits. Some people in my life don’t like it. I happen to love it!
My personal story begins with the sad story of loss. In 2001, I lost my dad. This year was the first time as an adult I experienced losing someone I truly loved that had been with me my entire young life. In 2002, we lost my mother-in-law. In 2004 my one and only sister Cecilia. In 2009, my rock, my mom Maria Luisa. Mom was the latest and probably the hardest as I had spent 7 years as her caregiver and best friend. So much loss in a short period of years leaves a pretty big hole in the heart. My mom was such a great mom, a counselor for the entire family, a woman full of wisdom, so forgiving, so beautiful and loving in every way. Like most moms, she spoiled me, cared for me when I was sick etc… Losing her was the biggest shocker. With kids all grown up, I felt that I needed to occupy my time doing something to keep the mind busy. Painting was the answer for me.
I work in the Technology field and my artwork has also been a release from the day to day grind. With kids getting married and/or moving out, I had a space to create an art room. Art came easy and before I knew it, I had a collection of work. I decided to gather my friends and family to check out my work and the rest is history.
Art has been the answer to a happier life for me!
Art can be very therapeutic for both, the artist and the individual admiring the artwork. It is healing for the soul.
